Goals 2013

The new year 2013 has arrived – It’s time for Goal Setting!

(CYPRUS) — Ready for Goal Setting again?
“When you get to the end of the rope, tie a knot and hang on.”
Franklin D Roosevelt
A new year has started and if you have not already got that pen and paper out and put a white paper on your desk and started to write…now is the time.

Before I share with you what I suggest you do,
first lets have a look at what are the common top then goals in the world.

1. Spend more time with family and friends
2. Becoming more healthy eating better and joining a gym
3. Loosing weight
4. Quit smoking
5. Enjoy life more
6. Quit drinking
7. Get out of debt
8. Learn something new
9. Help others
10. Get organized
Any of the above you your list?

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there”
– Will Rogers

Everybody talking about more this and that

Most people I speak to about goal setting always talk about what they want to have MORE of.
They want more money, more fun, more health, more partners, more freedom, more travel and more achievements.

My theory and experience however would suggest that before you ask for MORE you must clean up and have LESS.

Less of what? Almost everything….

Less work, less papers, less clothes, less travel, less opportunity and less TIME

In other words you must CLEAN UP before you can FILL UP.

You need to get rid of your sh*t…before you can make room for all that MORE that you want, make sense?

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”
– Winston Churchill

Here is what you must do before you start that new fresh GOAL list for 2012.

  1.     Make a list of all the places where you have stuff. Drawers, shelves, closets, rooms, garage, car, office, holiday home etc.
  2.     Make the list in priority order on where you will clean up stuff first
  3.     Start cleaning and throwing
  4.     Organize what is left so you always know where things are.

A piece of paper, a paper clip, a pen, your sunglasses, your car keys, a screw, your best shirt, your fun ware, the electric wire etc… basically everything from the smallest items to the big items.

After you have sorted it all the best thing you can do is to invest in a LABELER. A fantastic intension that has apparently been around for a while:-)

Personally I started using it just two years ago and it has completely changed my way of working, organizing and most importantly FINDING stuff.

Its incredible how powerful something becomes that is labeled and put in the organizer or box that is matching that item.

Example I have in my office folders for each area I am working on labeled.
Inside that folder are plastic sleeve labeled.
On my desk there are shelves labeled and inside these shelves more plastic folders with label
If you open one of my closets in my house you will see boxes marked, sunglasses, keys, office stuff, cloves, shoe polish, travel adaptors etc.

Once you have this system, and you se apiece of paper or item lying around you pick it up and put it in the allocated box or folder.

It is amazing how “light and happy” you will feel when you have organized your stuff and don’t have more than what you need of it – and KNOW where it is at all time.

Just imagine how your clothing closed could look and how you would feel when you opened it and you knew where everything was and that not one single item in that closed was just filling it and not being used…

Or never look for your car keys or wallet again..

Or never have to wonder where that receipt for the toaster that you just bought but it just broke and you want to return it is…

Or always know where that report, book, paper, screw driver, lighter or whatever you want there and then was!

“Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for fewer problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.”
– Earl Shoaf

After fulfilling the exercise above you will have space for your NEW stuff and GOALS.

Lets discuss how to do it and take the next step together!
